Washington, D.C. — Today, Planned Parenthood Action Fund announced it has endorsed Sen. Jeanne Shaheen for re-election to protect the health and rights patients in New Hampshire and across the country. This announcement is part of the Action Fund’s largest-ever endorsement wave of federal candidates committed to reproductive health and rights around the country.

During her time in the U.S. Senate, Sen. Shaheen has proven herself as a leader when it comes to protecting and expanding access to reproductive health care: She has introduced the Global HER Act to repeal the Global Gag Rule, a dangerous anti-abortion policy that risks the health and lives of women and girls around the world; she supported and defended mandatory insurance coverage for vital reproductive health services, and no-cost contraception as part of the Affordable Care Act; she fought back against efforts to allow employers to deny insurance coverage for birth control and other critical health care services; and now she’s fighting to defend patients from the Trump administration’s cruel Title X gag rule, which risks health care access for more than 4 million lower-income and uninsured people nationwide, including 16,000 Granite Staters.

Statement from Sabrina Dunlap, VP of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood NH Action Fund:

“We are thrilled with Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsement of Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, an incredible champion for reproductive health. People across New Hampshire want their elected officials to stand up to the Trump administration’s attacks that put our health, rights, and freedoms at risk, and Sen. Shaheen will always fight for the people of New Hampshire.  Sen. Shaheen is a trailblazer and a lifelong champion for reproductive and sexual health care, and she has worked tirelessly to fight against the Global Gag Rule and the Trump administration’s attacks on reproductive health. More than 14,000 New Hampshire patients rely on Planned Parenthood health centers for reproductive health care, and we need a champion like Sen. Shaheen to fight for access to care in Congress.”

This announcement marks only the beginning of the Planned Parenthood Action Fund’s endorsements in 2020 federal electoral races — with many more to come.

This year, 26 abortion bans have passed in states across the country, meaning that people are having to cross state lines or wait long times just to access basic care. In 2018, the American people sent more women and women of color to Congress than ever before, and flipped the House of Representatives to a clear pro-reproductive health majority. In 2020, there is a clear opportunity to flip the Senate and have a full Congress that will protect people’s health and rights.
