Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund Congratulates Molly Kelly for Securing the Democratic Nominee for New Hampshire Governor
For Immediate Release: Sept. 12, 2018
Tonight, Molly Kelly won the Democratic nominee for New Hampshire Governor in a decisive victory. Last month, Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund (PPNHAF) PAC endorsed Molly Kelly in this race. Democratic primary voters were fortunate to have two candidates who support abortion rights and access to health care. Molly Kelly campaigned on her proven record of standing up for reproductive health and Planned Parenthood during her ten year tenure in the state senate.
Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund spent the weeks leading up to tonight’s victory educating voters about why Molly Kelly is the best candidate in the race for New Hampshire Governor to protect reproductive health and quality, affordable health care that Planned Parenthood provides. Voters all over the state were moved by this message because women’s health is on the line like never before.
Statement from Sabrina Dunlap, Vice President of Public Policy, Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund:
“We congratulate Molly Kelly on her hard earned victory tonight. She has a long and proven track record as a champion for reproductive health in the New Hampshire senate. She ran a strong primary campaign with the help of committed Planned Parenthood supporters who are excited to keep the momentum going to elect a candidate that will never waver on reproductive rights. We look forward to Molly Kelly advancing the conversation of protecting reproductive rights in the Granite State in the General Election. We also applaud Steve Marchand for running a great race and helping to elevate reproductive health issues during these unprecedented times.”
Statement from Leah Plunkett, Planned Parenthood New Hampshire Action Fund Chair:
“Molly Kelly is the champion that we need in the corner office. Supporters of women’s health understand that New Hampshire needs someone who will never waver on reproductive rights and access to safe, legal abortion care during these dangerous times. Molly Kelly campaigned on her resume of her proven record of standing up for women and for Planned Parenthood during her ten years in the state senate. Tomorrow morning, she will hit the ground running in the General Election educating voters on her vision of a healthier New Hampshire. She understands that New Hampshire thrives when our communities are healthy, our students are better informed, and women have privacy when it comes to making personal medical decisions, including abortion.”
In the face of unprecedented attacks on reproductive health, our next Governor must be a proven and committed advocate for women’s health care. This past spring, the Trump Administration proposed changes to the Title X family planning program that would essentially dismantle the program and cut Planned Parenthood out of participation. Molly Kelly has pledged to work with the State to ensure funding is protected and that access to care is not at risk for the 18,000 Granite Staters who rely on Title X for health care. In addition, with the announcement of Anthony Kennedy’s retirement from the U.S. Supreme Court, Roe v. Wade, LGBTQ rights, and the Affordable Care Act all face unprecedented threats. Molly Kelly will work to protect our rights at a state level, even while they are under attack at the federal level.
