CONCORD --  On Thursday, the U.S. Supreme Court rejected an emergency request to block a Texas law that went into effect on September 1 which bans abortion after six weeks of pregnancy in defiance of Roe v. Wade

Statement from Kayla Montgomery, VP of Public Affairs for Planned Parenthood NH Action Fund and Planned Parenthood of Northern New England, NH:

The news from the US Supreme Court is a direct attack on access to safe, legal abortion in Texas and a threat to reproductive health everywhere. Everyone knows someone or loves someone who has had an abortion or will need an abortion. Here in New Hampshire, we have seen relentless and unprecedented efforts to restrict access to health care and shame pregnant people, including the forced ultrasound mandate and abortion ban recently signed into law by Governor Sununu. 

Just this year, Republican legislative leadership rejected efforts to codify the protections of Roe v. Wade for abortion access before 24 weeks in New Hampshire and refused to provide adequate exemptions to Sununu’s abortion ban for the health and safety of the pregnant person and fetus. Make no mistake, anti-abortion extremists in New Hampshire will not stop here. 

We stand in solidarity with reproductive rights advocates, abortion providers, and patients in Texas and across the country. The Supreme Court’s decision will have a nationwide ripple effect; Planned Parenthood will continue to provide the full range of reproductive health care, including abortion, in New Hampshire and fight for the rights of patients at the state and federal level - no matter what.
