Planned Parenthood Southeast Reopens Mobile Health Center

Center To Provide Full Spectrum of Reproductive Health Care Services, Including Safe, Legal Abortion

Mobile, AL — Yesterday, Planned Parenthood Southeast (PPSE) celebrated the reopening of its Mobile health center. After months of extensive renovations, the health center is now providing the same quality, compassionate care Mobile residents count on in a state-of-the-art facility.

“We have served the Mobile area proudly for years and with the renovation of this health center, we are protecting patients’ access to the provider they’ve been counting on for decades,” said PPSE President and Chief Executive Officer Staci Fox.

The renovation of the Mobile health center will allow PPSE to better serve its patients and improve access to the quality, nonjudgmental care they rely on. In Alabama far too many people lack access to the basic, preventive health care they need, which leads to some of the poorest health outcomes in the country, including unintended pregnancies, sexually transmitted infections, and high infant and maternal mortality. Perhaps most alarmingly, Alabama has the highest rates of cervical cancer mortality in the nation — a disease that can be prevented, treated, and cured if caught early enough.

“More than half of our Alabama patients are at or below the federal poverty level. That means that every day, we provide primary and preventive health care to patients who otherwise would have nowhere else to turn for care. And we plan to continue providing that care - no matter what,” said Fox.

The Mobile location will offer a full range of reproductive health care services, including lifesaving cancer screenings, birth control, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases, annual exams, and abortion services.

“The health of our patients and the communities we serve is our top priority. We are committed to ensuring that the people of Mobile have access to high-quality, affordable health care,” said PPSE Board Chair Leesa Booth. “And I am thrilled that we are able to continue to offer care to Alabama patients who have relied on us for more nearly 90 years.”
