Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado believes that in order for youth to make healthy decisions regarding their sexual behavior, they must have access to responsible sexuality education as part of a comprehensive health curriculum. Responsible sexuality education encompasses medically accurate, age-appropriate information regarding decision-making and refusal skills, physiology, sexually transmitted diseases including HIV/AIDS, and birth control. While programs should be abstinence-based, they should not be “abstinence-only,” as such programs exclude life-saving information about contraception and disease prevention. We believe students’ access to honest information and resources regarding their sexual health are vital to their ability to successfully participate in their education. Most recently, PPVC worked with coalition partners to pass HB13-1081 which created consistent curriculum standards for Colorado public schools who provide comprehensive sex education.
