Gardner joins Congressional Republicans in refusing to block Title X gag rule that puts the health of Coloradans at risk

DENVER, CO — Today, Sen. Cory Gardner abandoned Coloradans by failing to fight for critical language protecting reproductive health care in the government’s full-year funding bills. Gardner and Republican leadership ignored the calls of their constituents and stood by the Trump administration’s Title X gag rule, which forced Planned Parenthood and other health providers across the country out of the federal health program and threatened reproductive health care for millions of people.

Sarah Taylor-Nanista, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Votes Colorado:

“Today’s disappointing news is a blow to anyone who believes all Coloradans, no matter what their income is or where they live, should have access to affordable reproductive health care. Title X helps Coloradans who already face barriers to care access birth control, cancer screenings, STI testing, and more — and it’s indefensible that Sen. Cory Gardner refused to listen to Coloradans and didn’t do everything in his power to protect his constituents’ health care. We deserve a senator who is a champion for our health and rights, not a rubber stamp for an administration that constantly attacks our reproductive freedom."

Title X is a bipartisan program that has provided affordable birth control and essential reproductive health services for nearly 50 years. Earlier this month, Planned Parenthood Action Fund and Planned Parenthood Federation of America announced a seven-figure national investment in a Title X ad campaign, including television ads, digital ads, and targeted mailers in Colorado. Recent polling shows that Coloradans oppose the Trump administration’s Title X gag rule, and are less likely to support legislators who don’t do whatever they can to reverse it.
