We were proud to join Comptroller Sean Scanlon in October as his office announced an important update to the state employee health plan. This change makes the plan more inclusive of LGBTQ+ and single people by providing access to fertility care coverage they need to build their families. We are grateful to Comptroller Scanlon for his leadership and commitment to expanding access to health care for all people and by taking action to remove discriminatory barriers to family planning for LGBTQ+ and single plan members. A special thanks to Julia Famularo, a state employee who shared her personal story and advocated for this change to happen.

“The inequity in fertility care coverage is a crucial part of the fight for reproductive rights in Connecticut. We urge the CT General Assembly to follow the Comptroller’s lead. All people in Connecticut deserve that same access and coverage to fertility care that is why Planned Parenthood is a proud member of the FACT (Fertility Access Connecticut) campaign advocating for legislation to update and expand our fertility coverage law to include HUSKY Health and private health plans and making it inclusive of LGBTQ+ and single people. We won’t stop fighting for the rights of all people to make their own personal decisions about their bodies, including if and when to start a family, and to live health and self-determined lives.” - Gretchen Raffa, Vice President, Public Policy, Advocacy and Organizing.
