“We are extremely disappointed in the South Carolina legislature for passing HB 3114 today. This is a dangerous bill for SC women that would ban abortion after 20 weeks made even more extreme by removing exceptions for victims of rape and incest.

The reality is that abortion later in pregnancy is extremely rare and often takes place in complex and difficult situations where a woman and her doctor need every medical option available. In states that have passed similar abortion bans, some women and their families have been put into unimaginable situations — needing to end a pregnancy for serious medical reasons, but unable to do so.

These bills are simply part of an extreme political agenda to chip away at access to safe and legal abortion. Planned Parenthood South Atlantic commends those South Carolina legislators who fought against this legislation. They understand that abortion is a deeply personal, often complex decision that is best  left to a woman and her doctor—not politicians."
