Governor Murphy Wins Re-Election!

Voters in New Jersey made their voices heard, voting to re-elect reproductive health care champion Governor Phil Murphy.

2021 New Jersey Elections

This year, New Jersey's governor, lieutenant governor, and the entire state Senate and Assembly are all up for election. As we work towards a world where access to sexual and reproductive health care and education does not depend on your income or your zip code, the choice is clear: Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey is proud to endorse Governor Phil Murphy for re-election.

Governor Murphy has been a tireless champion for reproductive health care and reproductive rights. In his first term in office, Governor Murphy has:

  • Restored family planning funding cut by the Christie administration
  • Replaced the Title X funds blocked by the Trump-Pence administration’s authoritarian gag rule
  • Recognized time-sensitive reproductive health care as essential
  • Championed the Reproductive Freedom Act

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Murphy's opponent Jack Ciattarelli has made his extreme-right positions clear. He opposes the Reproductive Freedom Act, a bill that would ensure New Jerseyans have the right to make their own personal decisions about reproductive health care, including birth control, prenatal care, and abortion – even as Trump’s Supreme Court is poised to overturn or further erode the rights afforded to us by the historic Roe v. Wade decision during its upcoming term. Ciattarelli and his running mate Diane Allen voted against vital funding for family planning providers during their time in the state legislature, cutting New Jerseyans off from affordable birth control, cancer screenings, and sexually transmitted infections. Ciattarelli has made egregious, damaging statements in opposition to LGBTQ rights, doubling down on his efforts to roll back inclusive curricula that promotes acceptance and understanding in our schools.

New Jersey voters won’t be convinced by Ciattarelli’s pick that his views are not as backwards as they truly are. With 80 percent of New Jersey voters wanting to be able to make their own personal health care decisions without interference from politicians like Ciattarelli, we know that the best choice for reproductive health and the future of our state is Governor Phil Murphy.
