Governor Murphy commits to including family planning funding in state budget

Statement from Christine Sadovy, Legislative and Political Director,

Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey

TRENTON, NJ – Just weeks after signing legislation to restore funding for preventive family planning services, Governor Murphy reaffirmed his commitment to women’s health by pledging to fund reproductive health services in the upcoming FY19 state budget. Christine Sadovy, Legislative and Political Director with Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey, released the following statement:

“We are so thankful that Governor Murphy has once again reaffirmed his commitment to women’s health in New Jersey. After eight long years of a governor who played politics with women’s health, we commend Governor Murphy for taking action to protect and expand access to reproductive health care in New Jersey. New Jersey continues to get back on the right path when it comes to women’s health care.”

This funding for family planning services, which was repeatedly vetoed by Governor Christie despite the passionate efforts of legislative champions, supports preventive reproductive health care services like cancer screenings, birth control, and STD testing and treatment at New Jersey’s family planning providers, including Planned Parenthood health centers and other local community providers.
