Monday: NJ Assembly to Vote to Support Emergency Funding for Reproductive Health Services

A5802 will protect patients’ whose access to care has been compromised by the Trump-Pence Title X gag rule

TRENTON, NJ – Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey and other reproductive health advocates and supporters will be at the State House on Monday to urge the Assembly to pass A5802, a bill that would provide funding for providers such as Planned Parenthood so they can continue to provide lifesaving reproductive health services to New Jerseyans. The Assembly is scheduled to vote on the bill on Monday. The Senate is expected to vote on the companion bill, S4103, in December.

A5802 will protect patients in New Jersey by providing $9.5 million to reproductive health care providers like Planned Parenthood who have been forced out of the federal Title X program due to the medically unethical gag rule. The gag rule prevents health care providers from giving their patients full information about their reproductive health options. Planned Parenthood, which provides care to 70% of the 110,000 patients who access care under the Title X program, currently is operating on emergency funds. However, the organization cannot continue to do so indefinitely.

Spokespeople from Planned Parenthood Action Fund of New Jersey will be available for comment prior to and following the vote.
