In May 2021, anti-abortion politicians in Iowa passed a constitutional amendment to remove the right to abortion. This was the first major hurdle in a three-year process to attack reproductive freedom and amend the state constitution.
"I read stories about women feeling anguish about what they decided, but neither of us had doubts about having an abortion. It was the right thing for our family. And it was a relief. We drove back home confident we made the best decision for us."
"Individuals lacked options and awareness about pregnancy prevention, so during my years at Planned Parenthood, our goal was to educate them about birth control options and helped them access the pill. Women were thirsty for information. They couldn’t believe they could control when they became pregnant."
"I remember my mom telling us the importance of Roe. She said we could never go back to the old days of backdoor abortions. It was clear to me that abortions have happened since the beginning of time, and women will always find a way to have them. Making abortion safe and legal was a huge step forward."
