Rally is Part of National Day of Action Following Leaked Supreme Court Draft Opinion That Shows Court Plans to Overturn Roe v. Wade, Ending Constitutional Protections for Abortion

On Saturday, May 14, in Madison at the State Capitol and nationwide, abortion rights supporters will gather for a “Bans Off Our Bodies” day of action in support of abortion access and reproductive freedom.

The Wisconsin event, organized by Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin (PPAWI) is part of a nationwide response after a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion revealed the court soon plans to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate constitutional protections for abortion rights — a move that could immediately ban abortion in Wisconsin and likely lead 26 states to swiftly ban abortion.

On Saturday starting at 4 p.m. participants will rally in Madison at the State Capitol on the State Street side.

Confirmed speakers include: U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin,  State Sen. Melissa Agard, Sarah Noble (founder of the Reproductive Justice Collective), Tanya Atkinson (President, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin), Christine Newman-Ortiz (Executive Director, Voces de la Frontera)

Statement from Tanya Atkinson, president of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Wisconsin

“The shocking Supreme Court draft decision confirmed what we have long feared: The right to safe, legal abortion could soon be a thing of the past, not just in Wisconsin, but in half the states across the country.   Criminalizing abortion in Wisconsin is not the future we want for ourselves, friends, families or communities. The Governor and other elected leaders who support reproductive freedom   support repealing Wisconsin’s 172 year old abortion ban because they believe everyone should have the freedom and power to control their own bodies and lives.

Today we’re rallying at the State Capitol to call on the state Legislature and those across the country to protect people’s ability to access the health care they need and to say bans off our bodies. Join us!"
