Medication Abortion is Still Legal in California

In yet another attack on abortion care, a federal judge in Texas blocked the FDA's approval of mifepristone — a medicine safely used in medication abortion for more than 20 years. Although this decision came from a federal court in Texas, it doesn't just apply to patients in Texas — it could apply to people in every state in the nation, including California. Currently FDA approval for mifepristone remains intact. Learn more about the case here.

Let’s be clear: this cruel, unprecedented attempt to restrict access to abortion care nationwide has absolutely no basis in science or medicine. This is another politically motivated attack on abortion, orchestrated and funded by extreme anti-abortion actors.

Mifepristone is extremely safe and effective, and has been used by more than five million people since first approved over 20 years ago. It is used in more than half of abortions, and blocking its approval could make abortion harder to get across the country.

We'll keep you updated on the outcome of these cases. Look below for ways to take action for abortion access today!

Bans Off Our Bodies

Our country is facing an abortion access crisis.

Join the Fight

The court has failed us.

The Supreme Court has ended our federal constitutional right to abortion and overturned Roe v. Wade — turning its back on nearly 50 years of precedent. The court has failed us all — especially Black, Latino, Indigenous, and other people of color who are disproportionately harmed by abortion bans due to this country's legacy of racism and discrimination.

Make no mistake — this decision goes beyond abortion. This wrongful ruling is about who has power over you, who has the authority to make decisions for you, and who can control how your future is going to be. It throws away nearly 50 years of precedent and goes against the will of the American people. But the Planned Parenthood Central Coast Action Fund and our partners were built for this. Together, we will fight until everyone has access to abortion — and the care they need.
