The Planned Parenthood Central Coast Action Fund (PPCCAF) will consider endorsements for the June 7, 2022 Primary Election beginning in March 2022.

PPCCAF endorses candidates and works to elect lawmakers who will support sexual health education, reproductive health, and abortion rights. PPCCAF is a non-partisan organization that endorses and partners with candidates and elected officials who support a full range of reproductive care regardless of political party or affiliation. PPCCAF endorses candidates seeking election in San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties.

Endorsement Process (June 7, 2022 Primary Election)

The Electoral Committee of the Action Fund oversees the endorsement process, reviews questionnaires, interviews candidates, and makes recommendations to the full Board.

Endorsement Timeline

  • Candidate Questionnaires: The Electoral Committee will review candidate questionnaires Mid-March. To be considered for this round of endorsements, candidate questionnaires must be received by Sunday, March 13, 2022.
  • Candidate Interviews: The Electoral Committee may choose to interview candidates in order to make their decision. Interviews for the June Primary will take place virtually.
  • Committee Deliberation: The Electoral Committee will make recommendations about endorsements after reviewing questionnaires and conducting interviews.
  • Board Review & Decision: The PPCCAF Board will review recommendations from the Electoral Committee and provide the final decision. Final decisions are expected in April 2022.

The Action Fund may decide to support a candidate whose position on reproductive health care access and rights is fully consistent with the mission of Planned Parenthood by giving a full endorsement or, alternatively, public recognition of the candidate’s 100% Rating on Action Fund issues. If two or more candidates for any given open seat demonstrate support for reproductive rights and Planned Parenthood, the Action Fund may choose to grant a full endorsement to a single candidate in the race, issue multiple 100% Ratings, or take no action in the race.

Support from the Action Fund may take the form of digital advertisements, postings on the Action Fund website, email notices, voter guides, and, in the case of an endorsement, monetary contribution. In addition, the Action Fund may choose to oppose a candidate who undermines reproductive health care access and/or rights.

Action Fund endorsements and 100% ratings are issued for the current election cycle only and are revocable at any time. Previously endorsed or recognized candidates must apply for endorsement or recognition each time they run.

Candidates are encouraged to contact Luz Reyes-Martín, VP Planned Parenthood Central Coast Action Fund, with questions or if they would like a Word Document version of the questionnaires at (805) 722-1508 or [email protected]
