“We can count on her to stand up for Kansans’ ability to access essential health care.”

Overland Park, KS — Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes (PPGPV) today announced its endorsement of Senator Laura Kelly for Kansas governor.

An unwavering supporter of women’s rights and affordable health care during fourteen years in the Kansas State Senate, Kelly will be a vocal advocate for sexual and reproductive health care in Kansas. Kelly’s running mate—Senator Lynn Rogers—also brings strong leadership and a 100% voting record on sexual and reproductive health to the table.

“Laura Kelly has a proven track record supporting reproductive rights — and we can count on her to stand up for Kansans’ ability to access essential health care,” PPGPV President and CEO Dr. Brandon J. Hill said. “After eight long years with Brownback and Colyer attacking women’s rights, Kansas is ready for a governor who will fight against anti-‐choice extremists. Laura Kelly is the ally we need in Topeka. She understands the health needs of Kansans, and she’s going to get Kansas back on track.”

In addition to her strong support for reproductive rights, Kelly has vowed to expand Medicaid and fully fund public schools if elected governor.

Following the retirement of U.S. Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy, a national debate has erupted over the future of Roe v. Wade, and abortion access has been a central issue in the Kansas gubernatorial race.

“With access to safe, legal abortion on the line at the national level, the significance of this election can’t be overstated,” Hill said. “As governor, Laura Kelly will be a consistent, reliable advocate for comprehensive reproductive health care.”

Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes is a non-‐partisan organization focused on education, advocacy and elections to advance sexual and reproductive health care across Arkansas, Kansas, Oklahoma, and Missouri.

PPGPV’s endorsements for other Kansas races appear online at ppgpvotes.org. PPGPV will continue meeting with candidates and adding endorsements over the coming weeks.
