Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes PAC Launches Six-Figure Digital Ad Campaign in Kansas Highlighting Derek Schmidt’s Extremism on Abortion
For Immediate Release: Oct. 4, 2022
Today, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes PAC announced the release of "Contrast," part of a six-figure digital ad campaign focused on the race for Kansas governor. The 30-second ad highlights the stark contrast between anti-abortion rights candidate Derek Schmidt and reproductive freedom champion Gov. Laura Kelly.
In August, Kansas voters overwhelmingly decided to protect abortion access, rejecting a constitutional amendment that would have eliminated their right to an abortion. The ad reminds voters that Derek Schmidt believes Kansans’ rights are still up for discussion and that he is out of touch with Kansans’ values.
Statement from Kourtney Vincent-Woodbury, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes PAC:
“In August, Kansas voters overwhelmingly rejected a constitutional amendment that would have taken away their rights. Now, they must protect their rights again in this gubernatorial election. Derek Schmidt has dismissed Kansans’ support for abortion rights time and again, saying that he thinks the discussion is not over. Kansans deserve a leader who respects and shares their values — and that leader is Gov. Laura Kelly. Throughout her career, Gov. Kelly has stood up for Kansans and rejected legislation that puts politics into our personal medical decisions. The majority of Kansans support abortion access, and it is time for them to again take control and fight back at the ballot box.”
The ad campaign in Kansas is part of Planned Parenthood’s advocacy and political organizations’ 2022 electoral program, “Take Control,” which represents the groups’ largest-ever investment in an electoral cycle. The $50 million program will help elect champions for sexual and reproductive health care and rights, including abortion, up and down the ballot and across the country. The strategic investments will focus on states positioned to either restrict or expand access to sexual and reproductive health care.
