Joe Biden and Kamala Harris elected as the next President and Vice President of the United States
More than 2.5 million votes were cast for President-elect Joe Biden across Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma
Overland Park, Kan. — Today, the nation begins a new chapter led by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as President-elect and Vice President-elect.
Over the last several weeks, more Americans than ever in history made their voices heard as they voted for the next president of the United States. More than 2.5 million votes were cast for President-elect Joe Biden across Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, and Oklahoma.
Statement from Brandon Hill, PhD, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes (PPGPV):
“This is a monumental win for our communities, for every person in this country, and for everyone’s sexual and reproductive rights,” said PPGPV President and CEO Brandon Hill, PhD. “After four years in which the Trump administration consistently opposed reproductive rights, gender equity, LGBTQ+ rights, and racial equity, we must take this moment to celebrate that the peoples’ voices have been heard and that change is coming. A record number of Black, Indigenous, and other lawmakers of color, as well as LGBTQ+ lawmakers, will be a part of the upcoming movement of change in our four states. The arc of humanity is bending in a new direction, and we, a diverse population, have a key role in shaping that future.
“Though PPGPV is taking this moment to celebrate and breathe a sigh of relief with the nation, we know that our work does not stop here. Moving forward, the leaders and elected officials across our country have many issues to address, from the COVID-19 pandemic, to health inequities and restrictions on reproductive rights, to systemic racism and oppression. Some of this work can be done swiftly, but much of it will take time and effort. PPGPV will continue to hold our legislators and elected officials at every level accountable to their constituents, and to the promises they made during the campaign season. Our work is only beginning, because PPGPV’s fight to protect and expand health care in our communities is ongoing.”
