Ensuring Personal Health & Safety for All

In 2021, the Illinois General Assembly and Governor Pritzker took the bold step to ensure that all Illinois school aged children receive proper instruction in personal health and safety. But, an overwhelming number of Illinois schools are not incorporating this instruction in their curriculum. We are working to take the next steps to ensuring that all Illinois school children are ready to navigate the modern world.

Act Now: Illinois must require personal health and safety education!

In August 2022, the Illinois State Board of Education reported that over 70% of all school districts in Illinois do not offer any type of personal health and safety instruction for public school children at any grade level.

All students in Illinois public schools need and deserve age-appropriate, medically-accurate, and inclusive instruction that will affirm them and help them be safe and healthy. Illinois is falling dangerously short.

Now is the time to act to ensure that all Illinois public school children receive the personal health and safety education that will keep them safe and give them a foundation to have healthy relationships with their friends, family, and partners.

With the Ensuring Health and Safety for All Youth Act:

  • Each public school district in Illinois would provide age-appropriate, medically-accurate, and inclusive personal health and safety education in grades K-5 and age-appropriate, medically accurate, and inclusive sexual health education in grades 6-12.
  • Parents will continue to have the right to remove their child from such instruction.

School districts retain local control to

  • select their own curriculum and materials.
  • Determine in which grades there will be programming and for how many minutes per grade.
