Ad pushes back against lies and shame perpetuated by anti-abortion groups

On the eve of the 48th anniversary of Roe v. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion, the Planned Parenthood Maine Action Fund is launching a new digital ad.

The ad, “The Truth Is,” calls out anti-abortion groups such as Maine Right to Life and the Vitae Society for pushing misinformation and lies about abortion in an attempt to shame people who need an abortion and medical professionals who provide abortion care.

Watch “The Truth Is”

A record 77% of Americans support safe, legal abortion and a recent Maine poll found that no matter respondents’ personal feelings about abortion, they want the experience of getting an abortion to be supportive (83%), affordable (79%), available in your community (79%), without added burdens (76%), and covered by insurance (70%).

Despite the support for safe, legal abortion, anti-reproductive health lawmakers have introduced an unprecedented number of bills trying to take away reproductive health care or shame people who need an abortion.

While the language for all bills is not yet available, bill titles suggest anti-reproductive health leaders will be pushing medically inaccurate misinformation and lies, unnecessary medical procedures, insurance coverage denial of care, and restrictions on minors’ ability to obtain care.
