Gender-Affirming Care is Available at Planned Parenthood of Northern New England
For Immediate Release: June 1, 2023
MANCHESTER, NH – As we celebrate Pride month this June, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE) wants to remind the communities we serve that we provide gender-affirming care at all fifteen of our health centers in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont - and there is a fund to help provide these services to those who seek this care.
PPNNE‘s Gender-Affirming Care Fund provides high-quality, non-judgmental care to transgender and gender non-conforming patients, regardless of ability to pay. Many private and federal insurance programs do not include coverage for gender-affirming care, which is why PPNNE started this fund in 2017 as a way to reduce those barriers to care. PPNNE was one of the first Planned Parenthood affiliates in the country to offer this funding.
PPNNE offers a full spectrum of inclusive sexual and reproductive health care services to people of all genders and identities. Services include gender-affirming hormone therapy, PrEP and PEP, STI testing and treatment, birth control, well person check-ups and more. For more information visit our site here.
One patient who came to PPNNE for gender-affirming hormone therapy said, “I am able to be who I was meant to be with help from PPNNE.” Another noted, “I am no longer at war with my own body every day.”
Statement from Nicole Clegg, Acting CEO, Planned Parenthood of Northern New England:
“Planned Parenthood believes everyone deserves high quality, compassionate health care — no matter your gender identity or sexual orientation. We are proud to offer a safe space to all of our patients. As we celebrate Pride month, we also celebrate the LGBTQ+ communities we serve. We are stronger together, and the Gender-Affirming Care Fund is a critical way to support our mission of delivering reproductive health care to all of our patients in Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont.”
