MoLeg Weekly Wrap-Up
The Senate Committee on Seniors, Families, and Children voted to pass Senate Bill 28, which would eviscerate Medicaid, an essential source of health care for Missouri women, men, and young people. This bill could be debated in the Senate any day this week. Please use the link below to let your state senator know you oppose this effort to drastically cut Medicaid funding and services.
Committees in the House and Senate each heard legislation to extend tax credits for so-called “pregnancy resource centers.” These centers are on record for providing misleading and medically inaccurate information to pregnant people; their goal is to shame and discourage people from choosing safe, legal abortion. Instead of incentivizing these entities, the Missouri Legislature should focus on ensuring that all pregnant people have access to the full range of medical options in a supportive environment.

#Gov101: Learning About the Missouri Legislature
Coalition work continued over the last two weekends. Rep. Stacey Newman (D-St. Louis) hosted #Gov101 trainings in Kansas City (pictured left) and St. Louis (pictured right).
Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes President and CEO Laura McQuade joined the ACLU of Missouri, PROMO, and sexual and reproductive health care champions Reps. DaRon McGee (D-Kansas City) and Greg Razer (D-Kansas City) at the roundtable panel. The 150 participants learned about the inner workings of the Missouri Legislature and how to use their voices to advance progressive issues.
Representative Newman hosted a second #Gov101 training in Fenton, MO this past weekend. In addition to PROMO and the ACLU of Missouri, Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri President and CEO Mary M. Kogut spoke alongside Craig Yugawa, a medical student at Washington University, Rep. Doug Beck (D-St. Louis), and Becky Morgan of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.
One more #Gov101 training is scheduled for St. Louis on February 11. Mark your calendar and RSVP now!

Supreme Court Nominee
Last week, Pres. Trump announced his nomination of Judge Neil Gorsuch to the U.S. Supreme Court. The next morning, Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri joined with progressive allies, including NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, the Sierra Club, Missouri Immigrant and Refugee Advocates, and Jobs with Justice for a press conference at St. Louis’ Central Reform Congregation.
Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri’s M’Evie Mead said: “Nominees to the highest court in the land must protect our fundamental rights — including a woman’s constitutional right to control her own body. Roe v. Wade has been the law of the land for more than 40 years — and any nominee who opposes it is unacceptable.”
Take action now and tell your senators that if Judge Gorsuch doesn’t support Roe v. Wade, he is unfit to serve on the Supreme Court.
