Legislature Passes Extreme Abortion Ban — Tell Gov. Parson to Veto!
The Missouri Legislature ended its 2019 session on Friday, May 17 after passing one of the nation’s most extreme abortion bans over the vocal opposition of Missourians. Crowds of reproductive health advocates gathered outside the chamber chanting “Vote No Now” and “Shame, shame, shame” as the House vote took place.
House Bill 126 bans abortion at eight weeks — which is before many people even know they are pregnant. The bill also includes — among many other medically unnecessary measures — felony penalties for doctors, new restrictions on minors, and a “trigger ban” that would criminalize all abortion if the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade.
This dangerous attack on health care has drawn unprecedented opposition from physicians, patients, community leaders, and everyday Missourians alike, and more protests and actions are planned. The bill is now on Governor Parson’s desk, awaiting his signature. Call Gov. Parson and urge him to veto HB 126!
Here’s the bottom line: this fight is not over, and abortion remains safe and legal in Missouri.

Tuesday, May 22 is a National Day of Action to Stop Abortion Bans. Planned Parenthood Advocates, the ACLU of Missouri, NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri and more organizations will host events in Columbia, Springfield and St. Louis.

Kansas City Rallies to #StopTheBans and Urges Gov. Parson to Veto HB 126
On Sunday, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes partnered with barrier babes, a local sexual health advocacy organization, and the ACLU of Missouri to host a march and rally opposing HB 126 and other extreme abortion bans sweeping the South and Midwest. More than 2,000 reproductive rights supporters marched on the Country Club Plaza in Kansas City and made their voices heard!

Clean Missouri’s Democracy Reforms are Safe – For Now
Missourians spoke loud and clear in favor of democracy reform last November by passing Amendment 1, AKA Clean Missouri. From day one of this legislative session, politicians worked to undo these reforms and undermine the will of the voters. Thanks to the hard work of advocates like you who connected with fellow Missourians to protect democracy reform, lawmakers failed to pass any legislation undermining it. If lawmakers return to Jefferson City in 2020 with a target on Clean Missouri, we will work to protect it again.
