Supreme Court Update: #StopKavanaugh

President Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, is unfit to serve a lifetime on our highest court. His record says it all: If given the chance, he’d gut Roe v. Wade. He would take away our access to abortion, birth control, and health care, and he’d threaten our ability to live free of discrimination.

Our senators shouldn’t vote on Kavanaugh’s confirmation without hearing from us first.

We know that Roe and the Affordable Care Act have changed millions of people’s lives for the better. With Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearing set to start next week, it’s more important than ever to tell Sens. Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt to reject Kavanaugh and protect our health and rights.

Here are three ways to take action right now:

  1. Call 202-684-2473 and tell McCaskill and Blunt to vote NO on Kavanaugh

  2. Email your senators to BLOCK Kavanaugh and refuse to confirm ANY nominee who will threaten our reproductive rights

  3. Share your story on DearSenators.org and tell your senators why you want them to #StopKavanaugh

Recap: Sending Sen. McCaskill #QuestionsForKavanaugh

Planned Parenthood Advocates joined with NARAL Pro-Choice Missouri, SEIU, and Protect Our Care to encourage supporters to share questions for Sen. McCaskill to ask Judge Kavanaugh during their meeting. Missourians asked dozens of questions covering topics from Roe to insurance coverage for pre-existing conditions to the rights of workers to join together and earn a living wage. Planned Parenthood Advocates delivered the questions to the senator’s office before her meeting, and many supporters also shared their questions on social media with the hashtag #QuestionsForKavanaugh.

Recap: #UniteForJustice National Day of Action to #StopKavanaugh

Hundreds of Missourians across the state on August 26 turned out for the #UniteForJustice National Day of Action. They called on Sens. Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt vote NO on Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh. Patients, advocates, faith leaders, and health care providers — including Dr. David Eisenberg, medical director of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri — spoke about the threat Kavanaugh poses to the constitutional right to safe and legal abortion, birth control, the ACA, workers’ rights, marriage equality, the right to live free from discrimination, and the environment.

Recap: St. Louis Healthy Neighborhood Canvass

Eleven volunteers joined Planned Parenthood organizers for another Healthy Neighborhood Canvass in St. Louis City’s 18th Ward. Together, the teams knocked on 180 doors and shared information about health care services provided at Planned Parenthood, health insurance enrollment assistance, and registering to vote.

Recap: Mid-MO Pridefest 🌈

A dozen volunteers joined us at Mid MO’s annual Pridefest on August 25 to give out condoms, swag, and information about health services at Planned Parenthood.

More than 30 people stopped by the table and called Sens. McCaskill and Blunt to urge them to protect our rights and vote no on Kavanaugh.

Recap: #PillsforParson Petition Delivery

On August 2, 20 Planned Parenthood activists from across the state delivered over 800 petitions from concerned Missourians to Gov. Mike Parson, asking him to stop the “defund” of Planned Parenthood in Missouri. Activists met with the governors’ staff to voice their concerns about the importance of access to health care and the state’s attempts to block patients with low incomes from accessing vital preventive care like birth control, cancer screenings, and STI testing at Planned Parenthood health centers. Missouri’s health care safety net is already stretched thin — only 7% of non-Planned Parenthood providers offer comprehensive and accessible care. This “defund” could leave thousands of patients with nowhere else to turn for their care.

United We Stand Conference

Join progressive advocates and activists from across Missouri next Saturday, September 8th in St. Louis for the second annual United We Stand Conference. The conference aims to bring together elements of those fighting the attacks of the current administration to share knowledge and organizing skills as well as provide a cohesive long-term vision for a sustained movement capable of lasting social and political power. The day begins at 9:00 a.m. with “The Resistance Has Been Organized,” a discussion with speakers from Students Demand Action, the Inter-Faith Committee on Latin America, and UFCW Local 655. Workshops led by local movement leaders, including Planned Parenthood Advocates organizers, will follow throughout the day. RSVP and save your spot today!
