“Reproductive rights — including access to safe, legal abortion — win

at the ballot box every time.”

FAIRVIEW HEIGHTS, ILLINOIS — Today, Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri (Advocates) announced key electoral endorsements in Illinois this cycle. As politicians in states around the country restrict abortion and broader reproductive care, Illinois has stood out as a beacon of reproductive health care access. Advocates is working hard to help elect champions who will fight for patients’ reproductive rights, health care, and ability to make their own decisions.

Statement from Richard Muniz, Interim President and CEO, Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri

“Reproductive rights — including access to safe, legal abortion — win at the ballot box every time. While extreme politicians try to roll back our rights, we know that pro-reproductive freedom elected officials build compassionate policies that reflect the reality of their constituents’ needs. Because of the attacks and bans in states around the country blocking people from the care they want and need, abortion access is center-stage for voters in Illinois and beyond. The majority of voters are pro-reproductive health and rights, and our elected officials need to reflect that — and take action.

“Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri wholeheartedly endorses proven and steadfast champions of sexual and reproductive health care in former Rep. LaToya Greenwood and Rep. Katie Stuart. We look forward to watching them fight for legislation that helps patients get care and allows people to make their own decisions about their own bodies, health, and lives.”

Advocates of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region and Southwest Missouri is proud to endorse the below candidates who have committed to upholding and building upon work to advance sexual and reproductive health, bodily autonomy, and race equity in health outcomes:

  • Former Illinois State Rep. LaToya Greenwood for Illinois House District 114, who championed the Patient and Provider Protection Act, a monumental victory for patients in 2023, and whose policymaking centers the health of communities most impacted by injustice.

  • Illinois State Rep. Katie Stuart for Illinois House District 112, who has been an unwavering partner  in centering patient care in legislative solutions, and an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.

Over the coming weeks and months, the organization will be rolling out more endorsements for champions of sexual and reproductive health care and rights.
