PLANNED PARENTHOOD PA ADVOCATES APPLAUDS AG’S COMMITMENT TO ACCESSIBLE, ACCURATE REPRODUCTIVE CARE
For Immediate Release: Nov. 30, 2023 (Updated: Nov. 30, 2023, 7:52 p.m.)
(Harrisburg, Pa.) — Planned Parenthood PA Advocates today celebrated Attorney General Michelle Henry’s pregnancy care guidance and resources.
“Access to reliable sexual and reproductive health care is critical, but too often deceptive crisis pregnancy centers mislead patients about their options,” said PPPA Executive Director Signe Espinoza. “We were thrilled when Governor Shapiro terminated the contract with Real Alternatives, the entity that manages 31 of those dangerous centers, and AG Henry’s commitment to rooting out their deceitful practices is another important step on the path to ensuring every Pennsylvanian receives accurate and essential care.”
The Office of Attorney General offers consumers an online platform to submit complaints regarding professions and practices in the Commonwealth, including pregnancy services.
The Attorney General’s Office suggests the following questions for consumers seeking reproductive healthcare to pose to potential providers in order to navigate the selection process:
-
Are you (the facility) licensed or regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Health and/or do you have licensed medical professionals on staff to provide medical services?
-
What types of pregnancy-related services do you offer?
-
Do you protect patient health information and data under HIPAA? (*Note that only licensed medical providers are bound by HIPAA’s privacy protections.)
If consumers believe they have received misleading or false information about pregnancy-related resources and services provided in Pennsylvania, the Office of Attorney General encourages them to fill out a complaint form at https://www.attorneygeneral.gov/report-reproductive-health-deceptive-activity/. Complaints can be made anonymously.
