Statement from Maggie Groff (she, her, hers), Interim Exec Director, Planned Parenthood PA Advocates

"The current trend of abortion bans in this country is terrifying and dangerous. Pennsylvania is one of many states where anti-reproductive health politicians, as part of a coordinated political agenda, are attempting to ban access to safe, legal abortion. Just this week we saw yet another unconstitutional abortion ban (House Bill 321) pass in the PA House.  These “reason bans” – based on any particular reason a politician may chose – are passing all around the country, joining other restrictive anti-abortion legislation in Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, Ohio, and earlier today, Missouri. Attacks on abortion access are harmful to people’s lives. In addition, these bans disproportionately impact people of color, who already face systemic barriers to health care, such as racial and economic injustice.

It’s 2019, and Americans support the right to abortion, with seven in ten (73%) supporting Roe v. Wade. Abortion is health care and needs to be treated as such. At Planned Parenthood, we know a patient’s health should drive important medical decisions. We stand firm against these attacks in Pennsylvania and across the country, and we will continue to provide compassionate care, including safe, legal abortion services. It’s time for politicians to get out of the exam room."
