(Philadelphia, Pa.) — Planned Parenthood PA PAC today endorsed State Representative Malcolm Kenyatta for Auditor General.

“Our most basic rights are under attack at every level; from municipal office, to the state legislature, from county commission to Auditor General, we need to elect advocates for freedom and autonomy. Malcolm is that kind of advocate,” said PP PA PAC Political Director Adam Hosey. “We are proud to stand firmly in support of Malcolm’s historic candidacy, knowing that his record in the legislature and his lived experience will make him one of our strongest Auditors General.”

The office has immense power in holding institutions accountable and ensuring that public dollars are used appropriately. A recent former Auditor General here undertook an audit of crisis pregnancy centers receiving state Real Alternatives dollars, and found widespread fraudulent activities that laid the groundwork for the termination of the Real Alternatives contract in 2023.

Representative Kenyatta is a barrier-breaking public figure, becoming the first openly LGBTQ+ person of color and one of the youngest members elected to the PA General Assembly in 2018. In 2022, he became the first openly LGBTQ+ person of color to run for the U.S. Senate in American history.

Representative Kenyatta has been a vocal proponent of protecting workers' rights, enacting common-sense gun safety policies, and rooting out government corruption and waste. He has multiple legislative leadership roles: member of the powerful State Government Committee with oversight on state agencies and elections, Minority Chair of the Subcommittee on Campaign Finance and Elections, Minority Chair of Automation and Technology in the Committee on Commerce, and a member of the Finance Committee. Since elected, he has additionally served on Governor Tom Wolf’s Suicide Prevention Task Force, and he has been a member of the Philadelphia Delegation leadership team.

The organizations and supporters will celebrate the endorsement with Rep. Kenyatta at an event on Tuesday, March 12 in Harrisburg.
