Espinoza steps into her new role after serving as Interim Executive Director since May 2021

HARRISBURG, Pennsylvania — Today, Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates’ (PPPA) Board of Directors announces Signe Espinoza (she/her/ella) as the organization’s Executive Director. Espinoza has served as PPPA’s Interim Executive Director for 5 months, and before that, was PPPA’s Director of Policy for over a year.

“I am proud and humbled for the opportunity to be PPPA’s Executive Director,” said Signe Espinoza, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates (PPPA). “Like many Pennsylvanians, this fight is personal to me, and I am beyond honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead in this movement at such a critical moment in our state’s politics and alongside movement leaders. Puerto Rico y Nicaragua, presente y pa’lante!”

Espinoza’s Planned Parenthood story began in 2013 when she found herself at a clinic’s doors confident in her decision: she did not want to become a parent. From there, she grew from a volunteer, to a storyteller, to an intern, to a policy director, to interim executive director, and now, executive director.

“I am excited that an important voice like Signe’s in the policy arena for Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates gets the chance to take those important skills to the next level at this critical time in the movement,” said Abass B. Kamara, PPPA Board Chair.

SB 8 going into effect in Texas was the loudest alarm yet that abortion rights are in grave danger, and we know Pennsylvania could be next. Espinoza’s leadership at PPPA will propel our work forward as we continue working to expand access to affirming, affordable sexual and reproductive healthcare in the state of Pennsylvania.

PPPA is looking forward to Espinoza leading the organization into the 2022 election and beyond. It’s more important than ever that we secure pro-abortion candidates in the governor’s mansion and the legislature — and we are planning a large electoral program to make sure that happens.
