The ads will air as some state legislators push a constitutional amendment to permanently restrict abortion access in Pennsylvania

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania — Today, Planned Parenthood Pennsylvania Advocates (PPPA) is announcing that it’s proud to be a part of a $16 million Planned Parenthood Federation of America and Planned Parenthood Action Fund national paid media campaign to educate and increase urgency around the abortion access crisis around the country and in Pennsylvania. The ad, Facts, will run on television, over-the-top streaming, pre-roll in-browser video, YouTube, streaming audio, and more – with additional video content to follow.

This campaign comes as anti-abortion legislators in Harrisburg are pushing a constitutional amendment that would permanently amend the state constitution and take away any state protection for abortion access in Pennsylvania. The U.S. Supreme Court is poised to issue a decision this summer that could dismantle the constitutional right to an abortion guaranteed by Roe v. Wade. Despite the various threats to abortion access, and the fact that 80% of Americans want abortion to be legal, polling has shown that people are unaware of the national threat to Roe presented by Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization (JWHO) case, a challenge to Mississippi’s 15-week abortion ban.

"While abortion is legal in Pennsylvania, it certainly is not accessible to many, and it’s actively under threat. The constitutional amendment, pushed by anti-abortion legislators, would not only ban abortion in the state, but have detrimental implications for all sexual and reproductive health care services. These ads will make it clear that the fight for abortion is not just in states like Texas and Oklahoma, it is also right here and right now," said Signe Espinoza, PPPA Executive Director.

The ads will air nationally and in Pennsylvania through the Supreme Court’s JWHO decision. They will focus on supporters of abortion rights who are unaware of the stakes with a special emphasis on reaching people under 25 and Black and other communities who face barriers to accessing health care. This paid campaign is part of a coordinated effort to raise awareness and build grassroots support for reproductive freedom ahead of the Supreme Court’s decision this summer.

Increasing the urgency around abortion rights in Pennsylvania is critical, especially as state lawmakers continue to attack reproductive freedom. For more information about the “No Right to Abortion” Constitutional Amendment, visit PPPA’s page here.
