Messages are most powerful when they come from someone you know and trust. Think about it: out of the hundreds of messages you may get in a single week, which are you most likely to engage with? That’s right—you are more apt to respond to a friend, family member, or someone you know.

That’s why we’re asking you to support us through relational organizing. Relational organizing is friends reaching out to friends encouraging them to take an action, and it’s effective. Your work texting family and friends has a higher likelihood of changing their behavior than anything our organization may send them.

We need you.

Your texts will help us find new supporters and mobilize your community to advocate for Planned Parenthood’s patients, health care, and community. This is always important, but it is especially essential as we approach the fights ahead. The stronger our coalition, the more difficult it becomes for politicians and other decision makers to ignore our voices.

Texting Your Friends is Made Easier with Impactive

So, you want to mobilize your friends in the fight for sexual and reproductive health care and education—what’s next? You could come up with messages on your own and send out notes to friends and family, or you could use Impactive.

Impactive (formerly known as Outvote) is a platform you can use on your desktop or phone— we recommend downloading the app on your phone for a more seamless experience. It connects you with resources to recruit and organize your friends, family, and local communities.

Once you’ve downloaded Impactive, the first step is to create an account and sync your contacts (more on that below). Then search for “Planned Parenthood Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota Action Fund” and other organizations and movements that matter to you.

Once you connect with our organization, you’ll find important actions you can take. The actions will pre-populate texts, social media messages, or emails for you—plus there is an option to customize the notes to add your own voice. Get started with any of our published actions to grow your impact today!

Do Planned Parenthood South Dakota Advocate or Impactive use data without my consent, or consent from my friends?

Syncing your contacts in Impactive does not give Planned Parenthood South Dakota Advocate, Planned Parenthood North Central States, or Impactive consent to use your contacts’ information. We will never directly communicate with any of your phone contacts without their permission. All messages will be sent from your personal number, email, or social media account. All connected contacts live on your phone, so their numbers will never be shared with campaigns, volunteers, or political parties.

Your Organizing Make a Difference

Download Impactive today to try out one action. We’re confident you will discover it makes mobilizing your friends, family, and community easier. Don’t worry, we’re not asking you to contact everyone in your phone. A good challenge is to try to contact 15 people—enough to get out of your circle of trust.

You are key to our fight. Through messages to friends and family, you can help empower change from the ground up. We hope that you find Impactive is a useful tool in this advocacy work.

Governor Kristi Noem introduced a law banning abortion after six weeks, before most people even know they are pregnant. This ban would do real harm to South Dakotans. Tell your legislators to keep abortion safe and legal.
