PLANNED PARENTHOOD TEXAS VOTES
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
January 28, 2020

Statement from Dyana Limon-Mercado, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood Texas Votes

“In this race and in November, Dr. Eliz Markowitz is the only candidate running to represent HD 28 that has pledged to be a champion for Planned Parenthood patients and to protect the reproductive rights of all Texans. We don’t view tonight’s outcome as a setback -- our investment in this race to help get out the vote on behalf of Dr. Markowitz brings us closer to winning the seat in the November general election. We won’t ever stop fighting to elect officials who better represent us and share our values.

“HD 28 is just one of the many Texas House seats within reach to flip in favor of a pro-reproductive rights majority and we’re determined to take back power in 2020 for Planned Parenthood patients and all Texans who are fighting for health care. We’re organizing in local communities across the state and engaging and activating historically disenfranchised populations, including young people, people of color and women, to make their voices heard at the ballot box.

“Tonight, we are also proud to welcome Representatives-elect Lorraine Birabil and Anna Eastman to the Texas House. In their races for House Districts 100 and 148, respectively, they were each the only candidate who pledged 100 percent support for Planned Parenthood. Progressive voters clearly expect unwavering support for reproductive health and rights. We’re carrying this energy and momentum forward throughout 2020 to take back power for the people of Texas and change the future of our state for years to come.”
