PPV! RI thanks Senate Judiciary Chairwoman Lynch Prata and Senate Leadership for Advancing this Critical Legislation

Statement by Amanda Skinner, President and CEO, Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island:

“Planned Parenthood Votes! Rhode Island (PPV! RI) enthusiastically supports the new amended version of the Reproductive Privacy Act of 2019 (H 5125 B). This legislation will protect safe, legal abortion in Rhode Island as the Trump Administration continues its efforts to undermine the rights affirmed in Roe vs. Wade and upheld in subsequent decisions.

“PPV! RI stands with our partners in the Rhode Island Coalition for Reproductive Freedom in thanking Senate Judiciary Chairwoman Erin Lynch Prata, as well as Senate President Dominick Ruggerio and his leadership team, for their hard work in crafting this new version of the legislation. We thank Senator Gayle Goldin for taking the lead on this fight in the Senate. We call on the members of the Senate Judiciary Committee to vote yes and for the full Senate to act quickly to pass the Reproductive Privacy Act of 2019 without delay.

“Let’s be clear: abortion is health care, reproductive care is health care, and health care is a human right.

“On behalf of our 9,000 Rhode Island patients, our dedicated staff of health care providers, and our thousands of activists, supporters and donors, we will fight to protect a woman’s right and a family’s right to seek medical care wherever they wish, regardless of ability to pay, and we support laws designed to protect that right.
