Health care is getting more expensive.

Voting is one way we fight back.

Health care should be affordable, accessible, and available when people need it.

Make sure you’re ready to vote in upcoming state and local elections. We must elect leaders who will work to expand access to affordable care, not take it away.

Check your voter registration, make a plan to vote, and talk to your friends and family about what’s at stake.

Why elections matter:

Health care affordability is not just a federal issue. State leaders make decisions that affect Medicaid funding, access to care, provider availability, and whether North Carolinians can get the health care they need without going into debt.

Some state elections are decided by only a handful of votes.

That means your vote can help decide whether our communities move toward more affordable care — or face more cuts, higher costs, and more barriers.

Here's what we know:

Across North Carolina, families are feeling the pressure of rising health care costs. For too many people, getting care now means making impossible choices: paying for a doctor’s visit or paying the electric bill, filling a prescription or buying groceries, seeking treatment or going without.

Recent attacks on affordable health care have made this crisis worse. Federal changes to Medicaid and health insurance subsidies are expected to increase costs and put coverage at risk for people across the state. Now, more than 157,000 North Carolinians will lose their health care coverage, and another 888,000 will see their health care premiums double

What's at stake:

Medicaid provides health coverage to 1 in 4 North Carolinians, including children, pregnant people, older adults, people with disabilities, working families, and people in rural communities.

When politicians cut health care funding or fail to act, the impact is real: higher premiums, fewer coverage options, delayed care, more medical debt, and more people forced to go without the care they need.

Care delayed is care denied.
