Richmond, Va – Tonight, Virginia’s anti-abortion rights Governor Glenn Youngkin will deliver remarks at a gala for Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America (formerly Susan B. Anthony List); a group committed to “ending abortion in every state and in every legislature, including Congress.” Earlier today, Congressional Republicans introduced a national abortion ban during a press conference with this extremist group.

Jamie Lockhart, Executive Director of Planned Parenthood Advocates of Virginia:

“Governor Glenn Youngkin’s remarks to the funders of a small but vocal anti-abortion group, who do not represent the views of the majority of Americans, are a sign of what is to come in Virginia if Governor Youngkin has his way: a total abortion ban.

Groups like SBA Pro-Life America actively work to outlaw abortion. They push disinformation about abortion, stigmatize abortion and shame patients, lobby members of Congress, and push their radical, out-of-touch agenda. The reality is that their draconian views are wildly unpopular. They do not represent the majority of Americans and instead choose to align with the mere 10% of Virginians who favor a total ban on abortion. This group has a history of opposing some forms of birth control, and its president, a registered lobbyist in Virginia, believes that exceptions allowing survivors of rape to access abortion are “abominable.”

Governor Glenn Youngkin has made it clear that he will try to pass an abortion ban in Virginia during the next legislative session beginning in January 2023. His participation in tonight’s event is just another warning sign of what is still to come. Virginians must fight like hell — now, during the legislative session beginning in January, and next November at the ballot box — if we are going to protect our reproductive freedom.”
