New Yorkers must vote for candidates who will unapologetically fight to defend the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, and dismantle systems that uphold racial inequity.

New York – Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC is excited to announce endorsements for the August 23rd primary election. PPGNY Votes PAC endorsed 24 candidates, both progressive newcomers and valued incumbents, who are committed to the fight for sexual and reproductive health care, rights, and justice. These candidates embody the fabric of communities Planned Parenthood strives to serve and protect – these are Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian and LGBTQ+ communities, and people who are harmed by racial discrimination and politically biased policies.

This summer, the U.S. Supreme Court wrongfully handed anti-abortion politicians the power to erode abortion access in states across the country. While New York is currently an abortion access state, this November, New Yorkers must vote for candidates who will unapologetically fight to defend the right to bodily autonomy and reproductive freedom, and dismantle systems that uphold racial inequity – all of which are criteria for endorsement at PPGNY Votes PAC.

PPGNY Votes PAC proudly endorses candidates who have and will further cement protections for New York’s underserved communities, such as Lea Webb, who was the first Black person elected to the Binghamton City Council, Sen. Gustavo Rivera, who has successfully fought for postpartum Medicaid expansion for all who qualify, including undocumented people, and Kristen Gonzalez, who is a strong advocate for advancing equity for the people of District 59 across Queens, Brooklyn, and Manhattan.

Statement from Joy D. Calloway, Interim Chief Executive Officer, PPGNY Votes PAC:

The U.S. Supreme Court showed us the importance of local elections when the court handed abortion rights to state politicians. Right now, anti-abortion politicians are plotting to erode abortion access in nearly half the country. New York proudly serves as an abortion access state because New York voters elected leaders who align with our values. We must once again harness our collective voting power to ensure equitable access to essential sexual and reproductive health care and abortion. PPGNY Votes PAC is proud to endorse candidates who vow to defend the wants and interests of all New Yorkers.
