Ahead of the November general elections, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC plans to deeply engage with races in Dutchess and Nassau Counties to increase voter engagement

NEW YORK, NY - Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC is eager to announce its list of endorsements for the November 2023 elections. This is the first time that PPGNY Votes PAC has endorsed a significant number of local candidates outside New York City in pivotal counties including Dutchess, Schenectady, Ulster, and Nassau. Given how these specific regions have lost pro-sexual and reproductive health representation at the local, state, and federal level, PPGNY Votes PAC plans to increase engagement with races in these regions in hopes to increase voter turnout.

As attacks on abortion and reproductive health increase, it is imperative that New Yorkers demonstrate the power of our votes and participate in local elections come this November. We must elect reproductive rights champions to every level of office—leaders who will unapologetically defend our right to bodily autonomy, advocate for comprehensive bills and legislations, and advance equitable access to sexual and reproductive healthcare for all.

Candidate highlights:

Jaime Lynn Puccioni has been a strong advocate for protecting and expanding reproductive health care access in her communities and is running for re-election as Niskayuna Town Supervisor.

Manny Nneji is passionate about equity in the judicial system and protecting the human rights of his constituents. He is running for Ulster County District Attorney.

Sydney Martin has made a commitment to center abortion access and sexual and reproductive health care for the people in his community. He is running for Oyster Bay Town Council.

Michelle Bleecker is an active advocate for comprehensive sex education in our school system and plans to use her position as an elected official to promote greater awareness for issues related to sexual and reproductive health. She is running for Poughkeepsie Town Board.

Statement by Dipal Shah, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC:

PPGNY Votes PAC’s endorsements demonstrate the importance of increasing access to sexual and reproductive care at all levels of government. These candidates are strong advocates for reproductive care and their local communities, and by electing them we can ensure that our elected officials will fight for abortion rights, LGBTQ+ freedom, care for incarcerated individuals, economic justice, immigrant rights, and more. We are excited to help these amazing candidates make real change for their communities and invest for the first time in these local elections in Dutchess and Nassau.

The deadline to register for the November elections is Oct. 28. To register to vote or to update your registration information click here, to find a voting place near you click here.
