As attacks on abortion and reproductive health increase, New York voters must elect leaders who will defend our right to bodily autonomy and advance equitable access to sexual and reproductive healthcare for all

NEW YORK, NY - Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC is eager to announce its list of endorsements for the 2023 New York primary election. This is the first time that PPGNY Votes PAC has endorsed a significant number of local candidates outside New York City in counties including Dutchess, Tompkins, Ulster, and Nassau.

With Roe overturned, it is imperative that New Yorkers elect reproductive healthcare champions who will unapologetically defend our right to bodily autonomy. PPGNY Votes PAC proudly endorses candidates who align with our mission to dismantle systems that uphold racial inequity and ensure all people – regardless of race, income, age, gender/gender identity, sexual orientation, or marital status – have access to the sexual and reproductive health care services they need.

Candidate highlights:

Robert Cantelmo led the push to make Ithaca a sanctuary city for abortion access after Roe was overturned.

Megan Deichler worked to improve dignified access and reduce the impact of protestors on people seeking reproductive care at the local Planned Parenthood of Greater New York health center in Poughkeepsie.

Tiffany Caban led the codification into law of a resolution declaring NYC a safe city for all in need of abortion care and prohibiting city agencies from cooperating with the detention of those who perform or aid in abortion related services.

Farah Louis authored a bill aiming to increase education about polycystic ovary syndrome and endometriosis and to better support people seeking sexual and reproductive care.

Mariann Dalimonte helped to repeal an outdated law that limited abortion access in North Hempstead.

Statement by Dipal Shah, Executive Director, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC:

With anti-abortion politicians unceasingly attempting to ban abortion access nationwide, it is crucial that we elect candidates that will vigorously defend and protect our right to safe and legal abortions. The candidates on this list are at the forefront of what local politics can do for the sexual and reproductive health movement. We proudly endorsed them because they will continue to do the work at the local level to introduce and pass bills that halt attempts to stall health care equity, and that aggressively protect, advance, and expand access to sexual and reproductive health care and abortion services. New Yorkers deserve and want fierce leaders in their corner – and they are these leaders.

PPGNY Votes PAC believes that everyone has the fundamental right to decide when and whether to have a child. These candidates, if elected, will further cement New York as a leader in abortion access and continue to advance protections not only for New York’s marginalized communities, but for all coming to our state for abortion care.
