New York – Planned Parenthood of Greater New York Votes PAC (PPGNY Votes PAC) is excited to announce its second round of endorsements in crucial New York City elections. These endorsements reflect PPGNY Votes PAC’s mission to elect champions of reproductive health care, education, and rights.
For the first time, New York City will use ranked-choice voting for primary and special elections for city offices. PPGNY Votes PAC proudly ranks Kathryn Garcia first for NYC Mayor. Kathryn Garcia exemplifies the bold leadership needed to steer New York City toward a more progressive and promising future. Ms. Garcia is a devoted public servant, a champion for the people, and a mother who knows what it takes to raise a family in New York City. As mayor, we trust Kathryn Garcia to break barriers and close the gaps of inequality that have for too long harmed people of color, women, families with low incomes, immigrants, and LGBTQ New Yorkers. These are the same people who rely on Planned Parenthood of Greater New York for quality, affordable sexual and reproductive health care and education. Ms. Garcia is ready to fight for reproductive health and rights by reducing NYC's alarming maternal mortality rate, tackling climate change issues, and creating economic pathways that will allow families of every walk of life to thrive. New York needs a mayor who will ensure our city rebounds from this devastating health and economic crisis. Kathryn Garcia is the right woman for the job. We’re looking forward to making history with Kathryn Garcia as the first woman to lead New York City’s highest office.
We also announce Scott Stringer, Maya Wiley, and Ray McGuire respectively as our next ranked candidates. Scott Stringer has demonstrated over 30 years of public service and an unwavering commitment to reproductive health care and rights. He has effectively advocated for and delivered real change in the areas of abortion access, equity in health care delivery, prevention of domestic violence and robust sex education in our schools. Maya Wiley has fought against structural racism and issues of inequity in NYC for decades and has long been a champion for health care access for all. Wiley understands the full breadth of issues that impact the communities that PPGNY serves. Raymond McGuire has been a business leader involved with nonprofits for 30 years and is passionate about bridging the economic divide in NYC that has been exacerbated by COVID-19. From his own lived experiences and his experience managing large businesses and nonprofits, his strengths lie in identifying partnerships to address the systemic inequities in health care, housing, employment, and education that impact New Yorkers.
PPGNY Votes PAC has also ranked Brad Lander first for NYC Comptroller, Mark Levine first for Manhattan Borough President, Jo Anne Simon first for Brooklyn Borough President, and has endorsed 28 NYC City Council candidates who represent and will fight for the community of patients who seek essential, life-saving health care at Planned Parenthood of Greater New York centers.
Statement from Pascale Bernard, VP of Public Affairs and Community Organizing, PPGNY Votes PAC:
Right now, New York needs bold leadership that will work to revitalize the city and modernize safety net programs that benefit New Yorkers in communities of color, immigrants, people with low incomes, the LGBTQ community and so many others. Every day, Planned Parenthood of Greater New York sees how the health and economic ramifications of inequalities impact a person’s well-being. This roster of candidates understands the urgent need to advance and protect access to sexual and reproductive health care and education in New York and will show strong leadership as our communities recovers from the COVID-19 crisis.
Among the roster of trusted incumbents and promising challengers, PPGNY Votes PAC proudly stands by these fierce advocates for equity, reproductive rights and justice, and LGBTQI+ rights running for NY City Council.
