It’s National Nurses Week so we’d like to take a moment to highlight our compassionate and skilled providers. While we’re all adjusting to the new realities of COVID-19, Planned Parenthood health care providers are making it possible for patients to receive expanded care online and over the phone, and providing essential sexual and reproductive health services inside our health centers.
We always appreciate our providers, but after witnessing the way they are confronting new challenges and adapting to the rapidly changing environment with grace and grit, we are more thankful for them now than ever.
Meet Sonja, a Planned Parenthood Nurse Practitioner
Sonja (APRN, CNP) is the Clinical Practice Leader for Centralized Services and was a Mpls.StPaul Magazine 2019 Outstanding Nurse Awards Finalist for Administrative Leadership. We asked Sonja to share some of her experiences working at Planned Parenthood in this moment:
I chose to work at Planned Parenthood because I believe that helping patients address their sexual and reproductive needs helps them be their best selves. For some patients, seeking this type of health care may be intimidating or difficult, and I try to do my best to make the experience approachable and relevant.
I believe that helping patients address their sexual and reproductive needs helps them be their best selves.
Planned Parenthood challenges me to continually re-examine how we can best serve our patients. My role in the organization has evolved over time, and for the past several years I have been a leader in developing our telehealth services and coordinating patient follow-up. Working for Planned Parenthood has allowed me to implement these innovations and grow our team to take on new responsibilities.
During this challenging time, I appreciate the work of all health care workers. Their commitment, generosity, and resilience inspire me. This moment has also proven we need a health care system that allows EVERYONE to access care in order stay healthy. We will continue advocating for that.
