With the announcement that Justice Kennedy is retiring after thirty years on the Supreme Court, there is no doubt that abortion rights and access are on the line. Justice Kennedy has been the swing vote on the Supreme Court in recent years and has provided the tie-breaking votes on abortion access, same-sex marriage, and affirmative action.

President Trump and Senator Mitch McConnell hold the balance of the court in their hands – and with it the constitutional right to safe, legal abortion and to be free from discrimination in this country.  President Trump has pledged to only appoint biased judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade to the Supreme Court. Anti-abortion groups and politicians across the country have not been shy about declaring this their chance to make it illegal to access abortion in this country.

Progress is not guaranteed. There’s only one option moving forward: fight like hell to protect our rights, and then keep fighting to expand reproductive health care.

The time to take action is NOW. Here’s what you can do to fight back:

Get Loud: The U.S. Senate controls the timing and process of federal judicial nominations. With so many harmful decisions demonstrating that so much is at stake, we need every single senator to hear from their constituents in this moment. Contact your senator at 202-224-3121 or submit a comment online to demand they reject ANY nominee who will vote to overturn Roe v Wade.

Get to the Polls: We must work relentlessly to ensure that the U.S. Senate is made up of lawmakers who will tirelessly protect our rights. Right here in Minnesota, we have two senate seats on the ballot in November. We MUST elect Senator Tina Smith and re-elect Senator Amy Klobuchar, two lawmakers who deeply understand the importance of upholding Roe v. Wade and fighting for us. Pledge to vote on November 6. It’s simply too important to sit out.

Get Involved: There are many ways to stand with Planned Parenthood, including volunteering, to help elect candidates up and down the ticket who will fight to protect our rights in Congress and right here at home. Here's how to take action.

Pledge to Vote

7 out of 10 Americans support Roe v. Wade and access to abortion in this country. We cannot allow a world in which our daughters and granddaughters have fewer rights than the people of today. Planned Parenthood has been around for more than 100 years. We’ve seen Planned Parenthood patients and supporters fight hard and win their rights to access to basic reproductive health care over the last generation — but those rights could disappear if we don’t stop extreme judges from being appointed to our highest court.
