In Missouri, abortion is banned. Birth control is still legal.

Roe v. Wade has been overturned — here's what that means for Missourians

  • The U.S. Supreme Court has taken away the federal constitutional right to abortion.
  • Missouri has a “trigger” law in place that bans abortion and makes it a felony to perform an abortion in the state except in the event of a medical emergency. The Supreme Court decision is focused on abortion and silent on birth control.
  • Bottom line: The majority of abortion care is considered illegal across the state. Birth control — including IUDs and emergency contraception (aka “the morning-after pill") — remains legal and available, just as it was before the Supreme Court decision.

Take the Pledge: Rebuild Missourians’ Access to All Sexual & Reproductive Health Care

Within minutes of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe v. Wade, Missouri politicians banned abortion except in cases of medical emergency.

We have a long road ahead to rebuild a state where everyone can access the sexual and reproductive health care — including abortion — that they need.

Pledge to fight for that future.
