- The U.S. Supreme Court has taken away the federal constitutional right to abortion.
- Missouri has a “trigger” law in place that bans abortion and makes it a felony to perform an abortion in the state except in the event of a medical emergency. The Supreme Court decision is focused on abortion and silent on birth control.
- Bottom line: The majority of abortion care is considered illegal across the state. Birth control — including IUDs and emergency contraception (aka “the morning-after pill") — remains legal and available, just as it was before the Supreme Court decision.
In Missouri, abortion is banned. Birth control is still legal.
