Take Action: Demand MoLeg Allow Remote Testimony
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, but legislators are proceeding like it’s business as usual. There have been multiple, ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19 in the Capitol, and there is still no requirement to wear face coverings while in the building.
While some House committee hearings will be livestreamed, that is not enough. Missourians should not have to choose between risking our health and participating in our democracy!
Sign the ACLU of Missouri’s petition demanding lawmakers provide a meaningful virtual option for the public to safely participate in hearings on the 1600+ bills that have been filed so far.
If you've already signed the petition, spread the word on social media by posting on Facebook and sharing on Twitter!
Demand Access to MoLegSen. Hawley Must Resign
Senator Hawley has lied to his constituents, undermined our democracy, and violated his oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution.
Demand Sen. Hawley resign so we can move forward together.
Demand Hawley ResignThis Thursday: Phone Bank to Support HIV/AIDS Bills
Planned Parenthood Advocates is proud to support the HIV Justice Coalition, which is advocating for changes to modernize Missouri’s harmful and outdated laws that criminalize HIV/AIDS.
“Missouri law criminalizes sex between consenting adults when one is living with HIV. The onus is put on people living with HIV to prove that they disclosed their status prior to sex. Even acts that don't transmit the disease such as spitting are treated as felonies. The law ignores advances in medical science and disincentivizes HIV testing; states with HIV criminal laws do not have lower transmission rates. The laws need to change.”
One of the bills, Senate Bill 65, will soon be up for a hearing, and we want to build support.
Join the Southeast Missouri Action Team’s virtual phone bank this Thursday from 3-5 p.m. to take action! We’ll be calling fellow Planned Parenthood Advocates supporters in Southeast Missouri and asking them to contact their senators to pass SB 65.
