You can find more information and RSVP by clicking on the event for your city listen on the PPMO Calendar, your go-to resource for Planned Parenthood events in Missouri!

Women’s March on Washington — and in Missouri!

The upcoming Women’s March on Washington aims to send a message to all levels of government that we stand together in solidarity and we expect elected leaders to act to protect the rights of women, their families and their communities. Planned Parenthood has officially joined as a partner of the January 21 march in Washington D.C., with the goal of making it clear to the incoming administration that millions of people across this country are prepared to fight attacks on reproductive health care, abortion, and access to Planned Parenthood.

In addition to the national march in Washington, DC, there will be several marches throughout Missouri. Contact your local Planned Parenthood organizer to get more information!

Fighting Forward: Planned Parenthood Lawsuit Update

Missouri’s two Planned Parenthood affiliates, Comprehensive Health of Planned Parenthood Great Plains (PPGP) and Reproductive Health Services of Planned Parenthood of the St. Louis Region (PPSLR) filed a federal lawsuit challenging two of Missouri’s medically unnecessary restrictions on abortion providers. These restrictions — hospital admitting privileges and ambulatory surgical center (ASC) requirements — have reduced abortion access in Missouri to just one operating licensed health center offering safe, legal abortion, forcing countless patients to drive hundreds of miles for health care.

Filed in Missouri federal district court, the suit is based on the U.S. Supreme Court’s June Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt decision, which declared similar abortion restrictions in Texas unconstitutional. PPGP and PPSLR intend to bring safe, legal abortion to their health centers in Columbia, Kansas City, Springfield, and Joplin, where these restrictions have prevented patients in those communities from accessing providers.

2017 Missouri Legislative Preview

The 2017 Missouri legislative session is quickly approaching. Lawmakers began pre-filing bills on December 1, and the 99th General Assembly will begin on Wednesday, January 4.

The House reproductive health caucus will have 35 members, while the Senate reproductive health caucus will have nine members. So far there are 13 bills restricting abortion and birth control, most of which have been filed in previous years. Both Republicans and Democrats have filed seven bills that protect or expand Missourians’ sexual and reproductive health and rights. Check out our bill summary for the latest information as session moves forward.

Planned Parenthood Advocates in Missouri will be in the Capitol every day, fighting to protect and expand access to reproductive and sexual health care for all Missourians. We look forward to working with our legislative champions, especially these newly elected reproductive health supporters: Senators-elect Jake Hummel and John Rizzo and Representatives-elect Gretchen Bangert, Jerome Barnes, Doug Beck, Ingrid Burnett, Bruce Franks, Alan Gray, Peter Merideth, Crystal Quade, Greg Razer, Steve Roberts, Martha Stevens, Sarah Unsicker, Cora Faith Walker, and Tommie Pierson, Jr.

Governor-elect Greitens needs to hear from you

During the campaign, many candidates made reckless and dangerous threats against Planned Parenthood and access to critical reproductive health services. As these politicians now turn from campaigning to governing, we expect them to reject extremist rhetoric and represent all Missourians in moving our state forward.

Now is the time to reach out to Governor-elect Greitens and let him know that you support Planned Parenthood and access to reproductive health care. Take action now and tell Governor-elect Greitens you expect him to govern for all Missourians.
