The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts has endorsed Erika Uyterhoeven to represent the people of the 27th Middlesex District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives. As an organizer and advocate, Uyterhoeven has championed proactive policies that address health inequities, affirm reproductive rights, and improve the health and wellbeing of her community. As a state representative, she will build on her work as an advocate to fight for the health, rights, and basic freedoms of all.

Erika truly represents the values of the 27th Middlesex District: she believes all people deserve to access high-quality, affordable health care, free from shame, stigma, or political games. As state Representative, she will be a bold, vocal champion of all people who face unjust barriers to care. For the past four years, Trump and his anti-abortion cronies have relentlessly attacked our communities and sabotaged efforts to keep people healthy. Now more than ever, we need elected leaders who will push Massachusetts forward and make reproductive freedom a reality in our state.

Dr. Jen Childs-Roshak, President of PPAF

As an active supporter of Advocacy Fund priorities, Uyterhoeven has advocated for legislation protecting young people from dangerous abstinence-only sex education programs and for the ROE Act, which will dismantle medically unnecessary barriers to safe, legal abortion that disproportionately harm people of color and people with low incomes. Uyterhoeven has also focused her advocacy work on expanded access to LGBTQ-inclusive, comprehensive sex education.

To earn PPAF’s endorsement, candidates for state Senate and state Representative must support eliminating medically unnecessary barriers to safe, legal abortion that disproportionately block people of color and people with low incomes from receiving care. They must also prioritize implementing comprehensive sex education, adequately funding family planning programs, and protecting Massachusetts residents from political attacks on health care.

In addition to the 27th Middlesex District race, PPAF is deeply investing in several races in the 2020 election. Despite the physical restrictions imposed by COVID-19, PPAF’s field team is mobilizing grassroots supporters through phone banks and other virtual events. Leading up to Election Day, PPAF volunteers will educate voters about candidates’ positions and how to vote safely.
