The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts has endorsed Jarred Rose in the primary to represent the people of the Norfolk, Bristol & Plymouth District in the Massachusetts state Senate. Rose supports and prioritizes access to sexual and reproductive health care, and, as state senator, will work alongside the Advocacy Fund to defend the right to safe, legal abortion and ensure all people can access the care they need.

Jarred truly represents the values of the Norfolk, Bristol & Plymouth District: he believes all people deserve to make their own medical decisions free from shame, stigma, or political games. As state Senator, he will champion proactive policies that address health inequities, affirm reproductive rights, and improve the health and wellbeing of every community. For too long, the people of the Norfolk, Bristol & Plymouth District had to settle for a senator who halfheartedly supports their health and rights. Now more than ever, we need bold champions like Jarred who won’t settle for the status quo and will make reproductive freedom a reality in our state.

Dr. Jen Childs-Roshak, PPAF President

Rose is challenging Sen. Walter Timilty in the Democratic primary. Timilty opposed measures to protect patients’ safety when they enter reproductive health centers and, when the Trump administration imposed a gag rule on local family planning providers, Timilty opposed adequately funding these programs to help people with low incomes access preventive care. In addition, Timilty has not supported the ROE Act, which will dismantle medically unnecessary barriers to safe, legal abortion that disproportionately harm people of color and people with low incomes.

To earn PPAF’s endorsement, candidates for state Senate and state Representative must support eliminating medically unnecessary barriers to safe, legal abortion that disproportionately block people of color and people with low incomes from receiving care. They must also prioritize implementing comprehensive sex education, adequately funding family planning programs, and protecting Massachusetts residents from political attacks on health care.

In addition to the Norfolk, Bristol & Plymouth District race, PPAF is deeply investing in several races in the 2020 election. Despite the physical restrictions imposed by COVID-19, PPAF’s field team is mobilizing grassroots supporters through phone banks and other virtual events. Leading up to Election Day, PPAF volunteers will educate voters about candidates’ positions and how to vote safely.
