BOSTON – Dominique Lee, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts (PPLM), issued the following statement in response to news that CVS and Walgreens will begin dispensing mifepristone, one of two drugs used in medication abortion and miscarriage care, in several states, including Massachusetts.

“Mifepristone is a safe and effective medication and essential to the most effective medication abortion regimen and miscarriage management. We applaud CVS and Walgreens for taking this important step to expand access to mifepristone, which will allow more health care providers to prescribe this medication to their patients and ease access to abortion and miscarriage care," said Dominique Lee, President and CEO of PPLM. "Protecting and expanding access to medication abortion is essential to ensuring reproductive freedom, so we are proud that Massachusetts continues to lead by example.”

Planned Parenthood League of Massachusetts is the state’s leading provider of abortion care. Last year, more than 5,000 people came to PPLM for medication abortion care, either in-clinic or via telehealth.
