BOSTON—The Planned Parenthood Advocacy Fund of Massachusetts (PPAF) condemns the blatantly ideological agenda of State Senator Dean Tran. Sen. Tran was reelected to the Massachusetts Senate on Tuesday.

Statement from Dr. Jennifer Childs-Roshak, PPAF President:

“Sen. Dean Tran has made clear he will not hesitate to use his office to pursue an ideological agenda over the wellbeing of the Worcester and Middlesex District. Sen.Tran’s priorities include dismantling hard-won LGBTQ rights, blocking women from accessing affordable abortion, and denying Planned Parenthood patients the care they need. We will work tirelessly – not only to fend off the Trump-Pence administration’s attacks on our health and rights – but to prevent Sen. Tran’s harmful agenda from ever being translated into law. The people of our state deserve bold local leaders who will build a healthier, more equitable Massachusetts. Sen. Tran is a legislator from a different century.”

BACKGROUND

Dean Tran has a long record of opposing access to women’s health care and LGBTQ rights. As a Fitchburg city councilor, Tran authored a failed resolution opposing the opening of a Planned Parenthood health center in the city. Throughout his career, he has supported “defunding” Planned Parenthood, which blocks low income women from accessing care there. And just last year, he perpetuated the harmful myth that the transgender accommodation law puts women and girls at risk.
