We’re fastly approaching the 2020 general election. NOW is the time to elect a pro-reproductive rights majority in Congress, vote for leaders who will protect our friends and families from the ongoing impact from years of relentless attacks on our health care, and cast your ballot for candidates who will expand our rights. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona is proud to endorse Felicia French and Coral Evans for the Arizona Senate and House of Representatives in legislative district 6, both contending to flip their district, and Dr. Geraldine Peten for re-election to the Arizona House of Representatives in District 4. Your vote will determine the fate of reproductive rights in this election.

Abortion is on the 2020 ballot.  Here are some voter guides to help you make sure you’re voting for candidates who will help protect aboriton access:

What about Judges? Normally, PPAA does not weigh in on judicial races but 2020 is a year of critical circumstances and high-stakes situations. In the fight to protect the citizen-led ballot initiative process and help fund public education, we are supporting the effort to oust Judge Christopher Coury, whom you may remember as the judge that temporarily kicked the Invest in ED, Prop 208 off the ballot. His inflammatory rhetoric and courtroom behavior merit a NO vote on Judge Coury.

Felicia French for Senate - LD 6

Colonel (Ret.) Felicia French is a nurse, educator, entrepreneur, sustainability scientist, 32-year U.S. Army and Arizona National Guard veteran, and proud mom, who has served as a MedEvac helicopter pilot, State Equal Employment Manager, and Senior Medical Advisor. She holds a B.S. in Nursing, an M.S. in Systems Management, and an M.S. in Sustainable Solutions. French’s continued dedication to public service is reflected in her past volunteer roles in Search and Rescue and Community Emergency Response Team, with AmeriCares Hurricane Dorn disaster relief effort, as a hospice nurse in her local community of Pine, and currently, as a nurse providing COVID-19 support on the Navajo Nation. Her top priorities include fixing our education system, ensuring accessibility and affordability of health care, addressing government accountability, creating stable, high wage job opportunities, protecting our environment, and honoring veterans and supporting military families.

Coral Evans for House Representative - LD 6

Coral Evans is the current mayor of Flagstaff and the Democratic single-shot candidate for the District 6 House seat. She was first elected to office 2008, serving two terms (eight years) as a Council Member prior to her election as Mayor of the City of Flagstaff in 2016. Evans was re-elected Mayor in 2018. She is a third generation Arizonan and has even lived in the same house that her grandfather first built when he moved to Flagstaff in the 1940s. Evans is a longtime champion for access to healthcare, equal treatment of LGBTQ Arizonans, and a drive for community building. Evans is running for Arizona State House because she believes in better schooling for families, support for small businesses, and investing in our environment. Learn more about Coral Evans and her campaign here.

Dr. Geraldine Peten House of Representatives - LD 4

Dr. Geraldine Peten has over 30 years of experience in the education field, never settling and pushing to new roles; starting from a teaching position to becoming a consultant to being a School District Superintendent. Peten is currently an Arizona House of Representatives member, representing District 4. She assumed office in 2017 and is running for re-election. Peten serves on the Education, Land & Agriculture, and State and International Affairs committees. With her experience in the education field and industries around it, Peten is taking this opportunity to capitalize on her experience to help benefit the community. While education is her top priority, if reelected, she plans to address access to affordable health care, clean and safe environments, affordable housing, and reducing Arizona's mass incarceration.
