School boards are not all identical. They represent multiple stakeholders and institutions within the community, such as parents, guardians, students, and educators. They represent nonprofit workers, health care workers, and business leaders. This varied set of perspectives allows for a more comprehensive ability to approach issues and concerns within schools and the community. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona is proud to endorse a diverse range of candidates running for K-12 school and college board districts in Maricopa County. This November, it’s our job, every one of us, to ensure that we elect school board members that represent our communities and are working with and for us!
In these final 55 days leading up until election day, there is still time to learn about the candidates, and initiatives, running to help shape Arizona’s public schools. We are excited to share some of our 2020 endorsed school board candidates running in Pima County and a ballot initiative that will take action for students and teachers across Arizona.
The debate surrounding schools reopening amidst the COVID-19 pandemic has brought to light just how powerful school district governing boards are. As a voter, you help elect governing board members for the school district in which you live. School board members are the unseen decision makers in your child’s schooling and have the power to shape your child’s education.
Last week we celebrated a historic night as many of our endorsed candidates secured their spots on the ballot for November’s general election. These wins prove that Arizona voters are prioritizing electing public servants that both protect reproductive freedom and represent all of our communities. Lifelong Tucsonan, Representative Alma Hernandez, and former DREAMer and State Senate candidate, Lynsey Robinson, both embody the current and growing demographics within Arizona. We at Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona are proud to endorse Hernandez for reelection and Robinson for election. Now is the time to look forward as we continue the work ahead that will ensure these nominees take their offices in January.
Your power at the polls can be a force for change! The Arizona general election will be held on November 3, 2020. Reproductive health has been under attack, both nationally and statewide, but you can join Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona to back our endorsed candidates — and put our health and rights first.
Every week, more and more polls indicate Vice President Biden and Mark Kelly are poised to lead a historic Blue Wave through Arizona this November. Now under 100 days out from the general election, the wave shows signs of washing a new Arizona majority into Phoenix as well. If Democrats in the House of Representatives and Senate are to take control for the first time in over thirty years, they will need their seasoned hands on the reins of leadership. Liberal champions of reproductive justice including Representatives Athena Salman and Andres Castro, as well as Senator Juan Mendez are prepared to lead the fight for a more progressive vision for Arizona. Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona is proud to endorse all three dedicated public servants in their primary elections TOMORROW August 4th and into the general in November.
In a time of declining trust in government, public institutions and the commitment of civil servants, Arizona needs leadership that they know will be dedicated to furthering the cause of reproductive justice and progress for all. Productive legislators are the best legislators, and that is why Planned Parenthood Advocates of Arizona is excited to endorse Representative Daniel Hernandez, and Senators Andrea Dalessandro and Lela Alston. Arizona’s challenges are many, and time is short, this is a time for legislators who get things done. Let’s support them in winning their primaries on August 4th and get them back to Phoenix to keep up their good work.
PPAA’s 2020 Candidate Endorsements: Ballots have dropped, early voting started, and these candidates need your vote!
We are quickly approaching the August 4th primary date and we want to highlight two recently endorsed candidates for their desire to push democracy forward. PPAA is proud to endorse Gabriella Cazares-Kelly for Pima County Recorder and Stephanie Stahl Hamilton for Arizona House of Representatives - LD 10. These candidates are in competitive primaries and they need your help!
In 2016, I posted “Whole Woman’s Health v. Hellerstedt: Finally, Facts Matter,” applauding the U.S. Supreme Court for its decision to strike down a Texas law that required abortion providers to have hospital admitting privileges within 30 miles of their clinic, causing more than half the state’s abortion clinics to shut down.
On June 29, 2020, in June Medical Services v. Russo (June), the court struck down Louisiana’s near-identical attempt to erect barriers to abortion.
